Gang Leader Sentenced for Assaulting a Member Interested in Joining a Different Gang

The leader of the Aryan Circle gang pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury. His sentence includes 87 months in prison and three years of supervised release.

According to court documents, the defendant was the leader of a violent gang in Texas. Hundreds of members throughout the country operate outside and inside of various federal and state prisons. The Aryan Circle uses intimidation, threats, and violent actions to enforce rules and discipline among prospective members, current members, and anyone associated with them. These violent acts have been known to include assault and murder. All members are supposed to follow the rules without questioning the high-ranking members’ authority.

The defendant first joined the Aryan Circle back in the early 2000s. He became an upper board member during his time in the gang and was one of five people to hold a high ranking in the country. He had the authority to make decisions regarding which prospective members he would recruit and admit into the gang. He also had the power to discipline members or remove them for violating any of their rules. Additionally, he decided which rival gangs they would fight against or with.

Joining a different gang is a violation of one of the Aryan Circle rules. When the defendant found out one of the members wanted to switch to another gang affiliation, he ordered an attack. Several members followed the leader’s orders by beating the defiant victim and kicking him in the head after he fell to the ground. As a result, the victim required emergency medical care and ended up with a long-term injury.

On March 24, 2021, the defendant pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury in aid of racketeering. The Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division of the Justice Department and the Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas announced his sentence.
