Giving Back The Comeback Scholarship

Getting through a period of hardship demands resilience. At Texas Defense Firm, we seek to uplift those who have faced significant struggles and come out stronger on the other side. In service of that goal, we are opening the Comeback Scholarship for students who have been impacted by incarceration, addiction, or domestic vio- lence in their personal lives or within their families.

Submission Requirements

As part of the application process, all students must respond to the following essay prompt in approximately 750 words:

How has overcoming adversity shaped your character, and how have you transformed these experiences into opportunities for growth and personal development?

Applicants are not obligated to disclose sensitive personal details that they do not feel comfortable sharing. Our scholarship judges respect your privacy, and we only ask for the information that gives us an idea of your growth and improvement.

Evaluation Criteria

Our scholarship staff will review all essays based on the given criteria:

  • Do you fully address the questions asked by the prompt?
  • Does your response portray a real journey, growth, or opportunity for self-reflection?
  • Is your essay response clearly written and easy to follow?

We ask that students use their own, authentic writing and refrain from using AI to write their essay submission for our scholarship.

Award Amount

$1000 award to one student per college semester

Before You Apply

The Comeback Scholarship is open to students who meet all of our eligibility requirements:

  • You or your family must have been significantly affected by incarceration, domestic violence, and/or addiction.
  • You must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
  • You must be enrolled or planning to enroll in an undergraduate or graduate program within the United States for the Fall 2026 semester.
  • You must be at least 17 years old.
  • You must be a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States.
