Karmelo Anthony filed a notice of appeal one day after being sentenced to 35 years for the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf at a 2025 Texas track meet. The appeal is expected to focus heavily on allegations of racial bias during jury selection. Jeremy Rosenthal,  criminal defense attorney, said the defense will likely emphasize claims that Black jurors were improperly excluded. However, Rosenthal expressed skepticism that the argument would succeed, stating he sees little basis for an appellate court to overturn the conviction on those grounds.

Karmelo Anthony pleaded not guilty to murder in the stabbing of a fellow track athlete in a Frisco, Texas, high school, and maintains he acted in self-defense. The case has drawn national attention and intense public scrutiny since the fatal encounter.

Attorney Jeremy Rosenthal told Fox News Digital that the trial is now entering the phase where jurors must sort through competing witness accounts and determine which version of events is most credible.

"The defense is accepting part of the burden here because if they want the jury instructed on self-defense, they have to prove up that split-second statement," Rosenthal said.

"Public information doesn't belong to the officials; it belongs to the citizens. When you do it on a case-by-case basis, you're going to pick and choose favorites," said attorney Jeremy Rosenthal. The commissioners planned on discussing the litigation about the moratorium on data centers. Rosenthal said executive sessions have to be purposeful and encourage government officials to dig deeper into their subject matter.

Kalabus noted that attorneys could argue the victim "did not appear 18," suggesting the focus might be on whether the person charged took reasonable steps to determine her age.

A 19-year-old North Texas man avoided prison time in a widely publicized assisted suicide case after his attorney, Reynie Tinajero, secured a favorable plea outcome.

Instead of a conviction or jail sentence, the court granted deferred adjudication, resulting in probation and community service, significantly limiting the long-term consequences. Despite the serious nature of the charge and intense public attention, the resolution reflects effective legal advocacy and a strong defense strategy.

Reynie Tinajero represented Jorge Esparza on this case, where the client pleaded not guilty in the August 2020 shooting death of Ricardo Medina-Madriz.

Attorney Tinajero told jurors to be wary of transcripts and evidence presented in this case, all but implying detectives managed to get a false confession out of his client.

"The evidence is going to show you that no direct evidence is in this trial about Mr. Esparza committing this murder and the circumstantial evidence is absolutely weak," said Tinajero to jurors.

Attorney Reynie Tinajero represented college student Zander Tashman, 18, charged with aiding suicide, a felony, in connection with the death of Ellyse Suarez, whose body was recovered in Frisco Commons Park in November 2024.

The teen faced up to two years behind bars and his bond was set at $10,000.

Attorney Tinajero told NBC 5 "Zander and his family wish this horrible tragedy had never taken place either. He is exemplary college student with no prior history of criminal behavior."

"I'm sorry authorities made a poor and probably emotional choice to blame Zander and to do so in a public way. We'll be making our case in a court of law," he added.
